"Pessi & Illusia", 100x150 cm, sekatekniikka kankaalle, 2009
Heidi Hirvonen-Ferrari was born in Finland, Turku, in 1966. She has lived and worked in Rome already for over twenty years. There she has studied in Accademia di Belle Arti di Doma as a scenographic artist in 1992.
Scenographia didn't become her calling. She has always felt the will for free creativity, so slowly staging was left aside and instead of it came painting with liberating creativity of painting.
She started with abstract style of painting, inspired by witches of Lapland, shamans. Soon new characters started to appear on the canvas, one after the other, until the new production of the artist speaks of the fairies of the soul: female characters shyly spreading their message. Later Heidi moves outside of herself and starts to study women, who surround her everyday life: daughters, friends, unknown people. She wants to find both sensitive femininity and wildness of antiquity, which lives in all of the women, regardless of their age.
In her more recent productions the artist wants to concentrate totally only into her characters. "Story", which not that long ago was surrounding the characters is gone, but not totally. Monochromatic background hides, but doesn't remove. Story still exists, and it has to be fetched, but this time concentrating on what human characters are bringing out of it.
The main method of working is oil on canvas.
