A Delicate Superhero
I have used photos I have taken of myself and other ready-made pictures (from magazines and such) as the starting point of my exhibition. Photos have been more of pushes for action rather than goals. Painting is, ahead of everything else, a tool for thinking when I interpret lines, symbols and brush strokes I have made and I am searching for some undefined familiarity our of them, something I recognize as myself.
My working progress has been affected by a thought of "creative painting" I read from Cézanne book (by Göran Schildt) and above all the thought of a painting being in a sense all the time ready. When the goal is not to create a two-dimensional illusion of reality, it gives both the freedom and responsibility for the artist to decide the "readiness" of one's work.
In this exhibition the main criteria for the readiness has been the point where I find myself naming the work of art. I have aimed to avoid painting because of painting and excluding the fine-tuning to stop working when the thought has risen and the familiarity been found. In some cases I notice I have painted too much and I cancel the work by covering and erasing.
My technique is coal drawing, aquarelle, tempera, acrylic and oil both separately and combined.
I live and work in Tornio.
Thank you for Department of Lapland of Finnish Cultural Foundation Funds for supporting my exhibition.
