Joonas Turunen: Kupla ei puhkea
Painting and sculpture living together
Galleria Nunes in Helsinki represents from March 31st until April 18th Mari Puhakka's paintings and Joonas Turunen's sculptures.
These works of arts support each others with similar language of form. We created a versatile exhibition experience by combining together the worlds of painting and sculpture and tempting the viewer to find new ways to approach the works.
These works of art turn concepts upside down and change them. Paintings and sculptures are joint by juxtaposition of abstract and simplified and on the other hand interpretive and decorative expression.
Sculptures depict observation, emotion, philosophising and story-telling. They depict both life and being a human. Subjects are being approached by interpretive and abstract form and by material. Works have been executed using mixed techniques; by using wood, metal and stone with varying combinations. Names work as hints, beginning by giving concept from which audience will create their own interpretations. Sculptures go under the title "Thoughts in matter".
Mari Puhakka's paintings work in the borderline of abstract and interpretive, in the juncture of stillness and continuity. Her part of the exhibition - named "Conseptualisation" - is combined of oil and aquarelle paintings and drawings. These works of art are hidden images, observing the reality partly in absurd, partly in surrealistic stories.
